Myanmar’s Military Coup, between intervention and aversion
Despite the military’s coup in its government, Myanmar still has a long history of fighting against colonialism to establish a democratic state as well as southeast Asia states. One of the famous heroes General Aung San, a national revolutionist, is the father of Aung San Suu Kyi who is detained by Myanmar’s Army under commander in-chief Min Aung Hlaing. Although her father is the hero of Myanmar, the military does not disgrace to deprive her and some leaders of the National League for Democracy (NLD) from the legitimate regime.
Around a week ago, Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of the NLD Party, had been captured by a military group due to election strife between military and democratic supporters. It comes from military groups who are distrust against the electoral system, so they claimed to emerge the state on behalf of saving the system from electoral defraud.
This agenda literally is not surprised anymore for the geopolitical issue, whether in Myanmar or Southeast Asia Region. It has been a long time, Myanmar is always ruined by this issue in many cases like beliefs, tribes, ras, and inequalities among the people. One of the big issues is Rohingya genocide intrigue whose are involving government and military groups repelling them from their territory. It has happened in Rakhine, one of the provinces in Myanmar which is nearby from Bangladesh border, lots of refugees who are declined from their territory lives are still moving forward to look for a safe place for living.
Since this country has been established, it always faced up against some issues which are discredited the democratic values, in spite of deliberateness or unpreparedness by the state. One of the big issues which has always been fired on is about the tension between military and civil party or usually represented by the leader group party. Whenever they fight against each other to gain a democratic or authoritarian system, some members of the ASEAN community is always absent to advocate it despite threatened the society to a dangerous situation. The states are always used to avoid it within a rhetoric statement, so they occasionally declare to not intervene in the internal condition of Myanma’s political situation.
Regional political conditions are important to report to the public because of government and power issues, such as the relationship between the Indonesian government and the conflict in West Papua, the Thai government and the Muslim community in Pattani, the Malay government against the Indonesian border community in North Kalimantan and many examples of political interests region that occurs in the Southeast Asia region.
We don’t know how long democracy can multiply and reinterpret it as a positive intervention in the internal state conflicts. The interests of power must be based on the interests of the people and democracy should be interpreted broadly by the values of justice, liberty, and the benefit of the world community.
